Commission on Aging Minutes - June 4, 2001

Commission on Aging

June 4, 2001

The Prospect Commission On Aging meeting was called to order at 10:04 a.m by Chairperson Jeannette Lampron.

Members Present: Jeannette Lampron, Miriam Caouette, Albert Miele Sr., Michael Rutkowski, Ruby DeCosta, Jean A. Reilly, Richard Kuhn

Members Absent: Joseph Thompson

Others Present: Nicole Pezzullo, Director of Community Relations at the Village at East Farms, Lorraine Morris, Denise Skrip, Bill Brown

A Motion was made by Miriam Caouette, seconded by Al Miele to approve the minutes of the regular meeting on May 7, 2001. Vote Unanimous.

Director's Report: Lucy is ill, no director's report. Lorraine Morris handed out the bus report and pointed out the nutrition number is low, only six meals were served the whole week. More seniors used the bus for medical appointments this month. The MiniBus is rusting out around the back wheels and no grant can be obtained until next year to replace it.

A motion was made by Mike Rutkowski, seconded by Ruby DeCosta to accept the bus report. Vote Unanimous.

Old Business: Jeannette Lampron wrote a letter to the Friends of the Library explaining the Prospect Senior Center Policy on using the Senior Center for meetings. A book sale would include young children, which is not allowed by the Policy of Use of the Senior Center. The Proposal for Use was tabled until next month to allow for changes in the wording proposed at this meeting. There seems to be a problem with Town Hall scheduling meetings at the Senior Center without Lucy's prior knowledge. Lucy should be the only one to schedule meeting as she knows the Senior Center schedule. Question: Are young children allowed if brought by seniors to meetings, the answer is no. Jeannette is still working on the Grant Application to Naugatuck Savings Bank for two new computers and a printer for the Prospect Senior Center.

New Business: None

TRIAD Report: None. The next meeting is Wed. June 13 on "Sixty Plus Wellness" at 1 p.m. at the Prospect Fire House.

AARP Report: Installation of officers, 12:15 p.m. at the Manor Inn, Thursday, June 14.

Senior Club Report: Richard Kuhn is concerned the handicap parking spaces aren't being saved for handicap parking. Jeannette said to speak to whomever is in charge at the Center at that time as they have the right to tell them to move. The path to the old Fire House parking lot will be brought up to the Mayor. The one way driveway is not being observed. Lucy will talk to Gina Ash about signs saying one way.

Public Participation: Nicole Pezzulo offered use of the community room at the Village at East Farms for showers etc, that can't be held at the Senior Center.

A motion was made by Miriam Caouette, seconded by Al Miele to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m. Vote Unanimous.

Respectfully Submitted,
Jeannette Lampron, Chairperson
Martha Brown, Clerk
