The Prospect Commission On Aging meeting was called to order at 10:03 a.m. by Jeannette Lampron, Chairperson.
Members Present: Jeannette Lampron, Miriam Caouette, Albert Miele Sr., Joseph Thompson, Michael Rutkowski, Richard Kuhn, Jean Reilly
Member Absent: Ruby DeCosta
Others Present: Lorraine Morris, Bill Brown
A Motion was made by Joe Thompson, seconded by Mike Rutkowski to approve the minutes of the regular meeting May 6, 2002. Vote Unanimous.
Director's Report: None. Lucy Smegielski is out today. A Motion was made by Al Miele seconded by Richard Kuhn to accept the MiniBus Report. Vote Unanimous. The new bus will probably arrive in the fall with sixteen seats compared with fourteen seats in the current one. Prospect Seniors will be accepted first for seats then seniors from other towns. Lorraine will look up the former minibus regulations. Maybe new regulations could state Prospect residents have up until two or three days before a trip then accept seniors from other towns. Because of the State Grant riders can't be limited to Prospect Residents.
Old Business: The bocci and Horseshoe courts will have to wait until CL&P is thru using the old Fire Department parking lot. Mayor Bob Chatfield gave Jeannette permission to put up a locked comment box for seniors to write out their concerns about the Senior Center. They don't have to be signed.
New Business: It was good to see all the Commission members back after quite a few had medical problems. Next month Lorraine Morris the minibus driver will be out for more surgery. There has been a problem with having enough room for the special dinners. Some tables were out on the deck to accommodate more people. Someone called the Waterbury Fire Department to report there are too many people in the hall at one time. They called the Prospect Fire Marshall, who came over and inspected. It will only hold 62 tables per State fire regulations. Lucy had to call people to tell them they couldn't come due to overcrowding. Bingo is getting over crowded and parking is tight. The one way signs still aren't in the driveway and people continue to drive out the wrong way.
AARP: Annual Picnic July 11 at the American Italian Civic Club, 476 Boyden Ext. in Waterbury from 12 noon to 5 p.m. There will be no Friday meetings in June, July or August.
Prospect Senior Club: There are now 327 members. Tillie Wilmot is President and Richard Kuhn, Vice President.
Public Participation: None.
A discussion was held if July and August meetings should be suspended, unless there is an emergency meeting. A Motion was made by Joe Thompson, seconded by Mike Rutkowski to suspend July and August Commission On Aging meetings due to a lack of quorum. Vote Unanimous. The next meeting will be September 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m.
A Motion was made by Richard Kuhn, seconded by Al Miele to adjourn the meeting at 10:23 a.m. Vote Unanimous.
