Unapproved Minutes

October 6, 2008

Members Present: Rev. Norman; Chair, Inez Bramhall, Joe Thompson, Ruby DeCosta, Bernice Wilson and Eileen Flanagan.

Members Absent: Rev. Mark Suslenko, Elaine Pizzuto and Richard Cipriano.

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Chair Reverend Phyllis Norman @ 10:05 A.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the members.

Approval of Minutes:
Motion to approve the minutes of August 4, 2008 was made by Joe Thompson, seconded by Inez Bramhall. All in favor.

Director’s Report:
Lucy stated that the awning is up and is really beautiful. Members of Tai Chu have already benefited from it during their class. They picked up two benches and each will have a plaque on them and we will be obtaining more plaques from other donations. There is a big demand for fuel assistance. The applications will be taken to Waterbury and they will let them know directly if they quality. Everything is being checked. There are strict guidelines in order to be accepted. Rev. Norman asked if the state had given fuel assistance, The answer was that everything is being done in Waterbury. Inez Bramhall noted that quite a few people have signed up for fuel assistance. Lucy also mentioned there are now applications from Toll Brothers who are offering affordable housing.

The Flu Shots will be given at the Senior Center on October 15 from 1 to 3 pm. Also at the Fire House on October 21, 2008 from 1- 3pm. On an update of the parking lot – the wrought iron fence has been put up along the back. Doing it a section at a time. Beautiful job. Suggested the members take a look. Ballroom is all set up for ballroom dancing today. Because there is a demand, :Lucy is planning two sessions next month. It is very popular and enjoyed by many Seniors. some coming from a distance to participate.

Unfinished Business: Rev. Norman – Property Tax for Seniors – Do we want to move forward and offer suggestions for the relief of Seniors? Rev. Norman brought up the Circuit Breaker for Seniors explaining that all towns must offer it to them. Taxes will be frozen from the year before. There is an eligibility requirement in order to quality. She feels we must make people aware of the Circuit Breaker.

New Business;
Eileen Flanagan asked the question about who could paint curbing with yellow paint to make it visible for safety reasons. She found out that it is Mr. Doug Merriman, Chairman of the Prospect Safety Commission.

Prospect Senior Club Report:
Inez Bramhall informed the commission that the Prospect Senior Center donated $3,00000 With that donation, three new computers were purchased The Senior Center is busy all the time. Tomorrow they will go to the Seven Angels Theatre. On Wednesday, they will see a movie. On Thursday, they will be going to Sam, The Clown’s for lunch. Also going to Senior Center in Cheshire, one of the Songbirds is from Cheshire. On Friday, there is Bingo. At the end of the month on the 31st, they will celebrate Halloween. the children from Community School will visit us putting on their Halloween Parade. Lucy will hand out candy to the children. A Thanksgiving Dinner is planned. On December 2 we will have our Christmas Party at the Crystal Room. Many members praise the activities of the Center.

Next month’s meeting will be held on December 1, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. We will check the calendar for next year’s meetings.

Motion made by Joe Thompson to adjourn the meeting at 10:50 A.M. seconded by Ruby DeCosta. All in favor. Motion passes.
