Recycling

The Prospect Recycling Center is located on Plank Road. Recycling has been mandated by the State of Connecticut and Prospect has been cooperating in this effort for some time. The Recycling Center is set up for Mr. and Mrs. Prospect Resident and is not for commercial use. The Recycling Center is for Prospect Residents only and for recycled material generated within the boundaries of Prospect.

A recycling Sticker must be applied to automobile or pick up windows A sticker may be obtained at the Prospect Town Hall in the Mayor's Office. Registration is required to receive a sticker. The sticker will only be given for cars or pickup trucks. One day passes are available also.

The following items will be accepted:

1. Motor Oil - 1 gallon containers should be used to transport motor oil
2. Tires
3. Metal Bin - washing machines, water heaters, etc.
4. Wood Bin - wood pieces (no longer than 3-4 feet)
5. Furniture - couches, chairs, rugs, TV's (Please break up larger pieces)
6. Car batteries
7. Plastic
8. Magazines

Brush will be accepted at the lower level of the Recycling Center.

Leaves may be brought to Norm's Pony Rides, Roaring Brook Road on Wednesays and Saturdays. Please be sure to empty leaves out of plastic bags.

IF YOU ARE CONSTRUCTING A NEW HOUSE OR DOING A REMODELING JOB, YOU MUST CONTACT A PRIVATE HAULER TO HANDLE THE RESULTING DEBRIS.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING A MAJOR CLEANUP OR IF YOU ARE MOVING OUT OF TOWN AND YOU WISH TO DISPOSE OF A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF ACCUMULATIVE MEMORABILIA, YOU MUST CALL A PRIVATE CONRACTOR FOR A DUMPSTER.

CAR AND TRUCK ENGINES MUST BE TAKEN TO A SALVAGE YARD. THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT THE RECYCLING CENTER.

Dear Residents:

This is the Recyling schedule for the Town of Prospect for 2010. The list is divided into FOUR sections. Find youR street in the appropriate section and you will see your pick-up dates in the column to the right. The recycling is picked-up every two weeks for the entire year. Replacement bins can be picked up in the Mayor's Office in the event yours are damaged or lost.

Please recycle magazines as well as orange juice cartons, milk cartons, and juice box containers, along with the glass and cans. You can also recycle #1 and #2 plastics. The magazines and newspapers must be put in brown paper bags. Cardboard will be collected also. The cardboard must be cut into a 2x3 square and put in a brown paper bag. It is no longer necessary to separate glass and cans. If you have any questions regarding these new requirements, please feel free to call Town Hall.
