Approved Minutes
May 12, 2004

The Board of Recreation meeting was called to order by Mark Mikulski, Chairman at 7:17 p.m.

Board Members Present: Mark Mikulski; Chairman, Frank Bainer, Mike Palmerie, Jr., (arrived at 7:20 p.m.)

Absent: Joe Commendatore, Jim Corbett, Bill Sereduck and Mary Witham.

Due to the lack of a quorum the Board discussed the following, however no motions were made.

Guest:

There was discussion regarding the cost running the program, purchasing supplies, storage of materials and the location of the program. Mrs. Wiener will assume full responsibility for the coordination of the program that will be sponsored by the Board of Recreation. The registration fees will cover the costs for the competition. Practice will take place at the Grange.

Mr. Mikulski commented that the Board of Recreation would not cover the cost for tournaments.

Ms. Wiener would like to have the cheerleaders cheer at some basektball games next season. M. Mikulski directed her to see the person who is running the program at the time.

Mrs. Weiner stated that tryouts will be on June 7 and practice will begin on June 23, 2004. She has arranged for flyers to be distributed at the schools and a sign will be posted in the front of Prospect Town Hall.

Program Director's Report:

  • The family swim program is concluded for the season. The plan is to run several six week long programs on available dates from mid October to April. Swim lessons will be incorporated into these dates pending on the availablity of an instructor.
  • Bills
  • The tennis clinic for juniors will be held in Prospect during the week of August 9, 2004. This clinic is open to Prospect youth in grades K-6. An adult tennis league will begin in June and run through August. There are 32 participants and Fern Sundermeyer coordinates the program.
  • A meeting with Dom Sorrentino, Beacon Falls Recreation Department, Bill Stowell, Region 16 and Dan Scavone, Woodland High School Athletic Director resulted in the waiver of custodial costs for the baseketball program school use in appreciation for the use of town fields by Long River and Woodland.

  • Bills were reviewed.

    Correspondence:

    Letter from the Town Council requesting the approximate cost for repairs to Hotchkiss Soccer field. This request will be presented to the Mayor's office in order for the information to be researched and presented to the Town Council.

    Meeting closed at 7:49 p.m.
