The Board of Recreation meeting was called to order by William Sereduck, Acting Chair, at 7:05 p.m.
Members present: Frank Bainer, Mike Palmerie, Jr., William Sereduck, Mary Welch, and Mary Witham Members absent: Larry Fitzgerald and Mark Mikulski Also present: Christopher Moffo, Program Director
Guests/Public Participation: none
Minutes: Motion made by M. Witham, seconded by W. Sereduck to approve the December 14, 2005 minutes. F. Bainer, M. Palmerie, W. Sereduck and M. Witham approve. Mary Welch abstains. Motion carries.
Program Director’s Report: C. Moffo reviewed his report with the Board.
W. Sereduck questioned if the Men’s Adult Golf League would allow women to join if there was an interest. C. Moffo stated that he was requested to have a men’s league only. If there were enough women who showed interest then a women’s golf league will be formed.
W. Sereduck questioned if the High School Basketball Recreation League F. Coelho would like to run should be considered in the budget for next year. C. Moffo stated that this should be considered in next year’s budget.
Correspondence/Bills: Program proposal from Ann Luschenat for Prospect Town Quilters. The quilting program will be held at the Senior Center on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be 20 participants. This program will begin February 23, 2006.
All bills were reviewed and discussed. Motion made by M. Palmerie, seconded by F. Bainer to pay the bills. Unanimous
Old Business: None
New Business: Discussion regarding the 2005/06 budget preparation.
M. Witham commented that Long River does not have a feeder program for the tennis program at Woodland Regional High School. M. Witham would like to have C. Moffo look into having a tennis clinic run by the Board of Recreation.
C. Moffo stated that he would explore the possibility of running tennis program through an agency i.e. Skyhawks, Middlebury Tennis & Racket etc.
C. Moffo discussed running a fishing derby.
W. Sereduck informed C. Moffo that the Department of Environmental Protection has run fishing derbies in the past and he should contact them.
C. Moffo discussed holding a winter fest event at the skating rink. The Board was positive about this. W. Sereduck suggested that if this is done, to contact a Boy Scout and/or Girl Scout troop that would like to sell the hot cocoa to help them earn a merit badge. M. Palmerie stated he would donate the supplies. C. Moffo will research the cost of a DJ for this event; which will probably be held during the February school vacation.
Motion made by to F. Bainer, seconded by M. Witham to adjourn. Unanimous
