Our technology classes provide developmentally appropriate challenges, thru fun-filled and hands-on activities.
INVENTION-ATION
For children in Grades 1st - 6th
Classes Held: Monday through Friday, from August 4 - August 8
From : 9 am - 12 pm at the Prospect Grange
Cost: $155 Res. / $160 NonRes.
Use your imagination and join us for Invention-ation week! Descover engineering while building structures from ordinary household items! Explore simple machines and learn the physics of a catapult! Count down to a water rocket launch, or design and create an invention fresh from your imagination!
ROBOTICS DESIGN
For children entering Grades 3rd - 8th
Classes Held: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - July 29 - July 31
From: 9:15 am - 12:15 pm
Did you ever wonder how a pre-school toy can come alive at the squeeze of its hand or how a toy parrot can start talking to you when you pass by? In this program, we will combine the use of infrared red light sensor and the use of touch sensor with Lego RCX technology to build a robot who will greet you or even play toss and catch with you.
ANIMATION MOVIEMAKING
For children entering Grades 3rd - 8th
Classes Held: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - July 29 - July 31
From: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Clay and animation, what a perfect combimation! Working in teams, students do it all, from story creation to making the characters with clay and building the sets. As they learn the production process they will use DIGITAL CAMERA and COMPUTER SOFTWARE to animate, record, download, assemble and edit their own movies. Check out our students' masterpieces in the Student Gallery at www.computertots.com/northct.
FUNGINEERING
For children entering Grades 1st and 2nd
Classes Held: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - August 12 - August 14
From: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Young budding engineers love this "hands-on, minds-on" program. Concepts of simple machines such as gear, pullys, levers and wheels are introduced through a series of activity-card LEGO building projects. With the use of a motor and electrical controls, the models come alive right before their eyes!
GREEN ENGINEERING
For children entering Grades 3rd - 6th
Classes Held: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - August 19 - August 21
From: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Engineering meet alternative energy! This program examines how smart engineering design combines with the use of renewable energy sources such as wind, water and solar power. Children will learn about some of the environmental issues we may face today while providing them with a fun and educational experience. This curriculum uses Lego Renewable Energy Lab Kits and is designed to help students grasp the abstract and sometimes difficult concept of energy through captivating hands-on activities. Building projects such as a turbine windmill, solar car and more will bring these science concepts alive!
FEE: $104 RES. / $109 NON-RES.
