The Prospect Public Library Board of Directors special meeting was called to order by Chairperson Susan H. McKernan, at 7:00 p.m. at the Prospect Public Library.

Approval of Previous Minutes November 10, 2009:
A general discussion was held. Lorraine Dixon moved that the minutes be approved as presented, seconded by Nancy Via. Seven members voted in favor, Nancy Via abstained. Motion Carried.

Treasurer’s Report:
A general discussion was held. A motion was made by Carole Moschella to accept the December, 2009 Treasurer’s report, seconded by Kathleen Greene. Motion Unanimous.

Librarian’s Report:
A general discussion was held. Nancy Via commented on what a fantastic job Barbara Smith has done selecting books for the History Book Club. A motion was made by Ira Kamm to accept the December, 2009 Librarian’s report, seconded by Lorraine Dixon. Motion Unanimous.

Approval of Bills:
A general discussion was held. Motion by Carole Moschella to accept the bills for payment as presented, seconded by Lorraine Dixon. Motion Unanimous.

Chairman’s Report:
Chairperson Susan H. McKernan commented on the beautiful artwork displayed in the Community Room, and a job well done by Lauren Webber contacting the Long River Middle School art teacher and students to have them submit their artwork for display.

Chairperson McKernan also stated that she would prefer to see one combined article in the Prospect Pages from Barbara Smith and Loren Webber instead of a separate article from both of them.

Chairperson McKernan told the Board of her conversation with Mayor Bob and Barbara Smith on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 when the decision was made to open the Library at noon due to the snowy conditions. The delayed opening allowed the library staff and patrons to get to and from the library safely.

Chairperson Susan H. McKernan also stated the she and Barbara Smith will be meeting with Mayor Bob to discuss having one web page only for the Prospect Public Library. Instead of having Library information on the town’s web site, a link would be put on the town’s web site to send the person directly to the Prospect Public Library’s web page that is maintained by Barbara Smith and Loren Webber.

Old Business:
General discussion was held on the second draft of the proposed Library budget for 2010-2011.

New Business:
Barbara Smith gave the Board members copies of the Material Selection Policy and the Policy about animals in the Library to review for revision at the January, 2010 meeting.

Judy Kennelly shared a Lit Kit that she checked out from the Cheshire Library. The Lit Kit has a collection of items based on a particular topic.

A motion was made by Nancy Via at 7:55 p.m. to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Carole Moschella. Motion carried unanimously.
