Tax Collector
NOTICE of Taxes Due

Real estate, personal property and motor vehicle taxes become due July 1, 2011 and will be mailed on or about June 29, 2011. The last day to pay without interest is Monday, August 1, 2010.

If you did not receive a tax bill for property you own and/or each motor vehicle you had registered at October 1, 2010, please call the Tax Collector's Office.

Non-receipt of a tax bill does not invalidate the tax nor eliminate the interest that must be charged for a late payment.

In accordance with Connecticut State Statutes, interest is charged on payments made after August 1 at a rate of 1-1/2 percent per month from July 1, 2011. The minimum amount of interest charged is $2.00.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Any person owing motor vehicle taxes that were due prior to July 1, 2011, will be required to pay all prior motor vehicle taxes before a release form is issued for registering any vehicle at the Department of Motor Vehicles. There are no exceptions!

Office hours for the Tax Collector's Office in Prospect are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office will be closed on Monday, July 4. We do not accept credit cards or debit card payments. Payments may be made by cash, check or money order. Save postage by taking advantage of the Town Hall "drop box" located at the back entrance of the Town Hall. Place the payment, copy of your bill and check or money order in an envelope addressed to the "Tax Collector" and include a daytime telephone number where you can be reached if we have questions pertaining to your payment. Never leave a cash payment in the drop box.

Receipts are returned to you if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included with your payment.

Please note that payments left in the drop box on August 1, 2010 will be collected up to 4 p.m. Any payment left in the drop box afer 4 p.m. on August 1 will be considered late and interest will be charged.
