Since 2001, Prospect has received several grants to provide funds to assist residents in home repairs. These dollars originate from HUD in Washington DC and are dunneled through the CT Department of Economic and Community Development.
Projects that are considered must be ones that help the homeowners in maintaining their home in a safe, efficient, and sanitary living condition. Over the past few years, the Town of Prospect has been able to help residents with new roofs, furnaces, siding and windows, septic and well system repairs, oil tank removals and electrical upgrades.
Currently, there are some funds available and a few applicants are pending. However, if the Town shows a "waiting list of significance", the State will consider awarding additional funds for the purpose of housing rehabilitation projects. Applicants are approved based upon income qualifications, primarily low to moderate incomes. (For example, if there are two persons residing in the home, the combined total income cannot exceed $45,650.00.) The resident must also maintain a standard homeowner's insurance policy. In addition, town taxes must be current.
