The filing period for tax credits for Elderly andTotally Disabled homeowners for the 2009 Grand List will be February 1 through May 15, 2011.
To apply, the applicant must meet age and qualifying income limits. He or she must have been 65 years of age by December 31, 2010 or be certified totally and permanently disabled before reaching age 65. All income for 2010 must be documented. The maximum income for single applicants is $32,300 and the maximum income for married applicants is $39,500.
Applicants must show proof of all income received for the 2010 calendar year. If you do not file a Federal Income Tax return, just bring all of your year-end statements, and the 2010 Social Security Benefit Statement (Form SSA-1099).
Totally disabled applicants must submit current written proof of their diablity and income. Proof of disability can include Social Security, Federal, State or local government retirement or disability plan, Railroad Retirement Act, or government-related teacher's retirement plan.
To file an application for tax credit, the applicant, a relative or an agent must come to the Prospect Assessor's Office before filing period ends on May 15, 2011.
