July 3, 2001

The Regular Town Council meeting was called to order at 7:10 P.M. by Chair, Cynthia L. Gibbons. Members present: P. Geary, C. Gibbons, T. Graveline, G. Hodge & S. Sabo. Absent: F. Bainer, R. Doyon, D. Franks, & E. Miller.

MAYOR'S REPORT: Letter from Attorney General Richard Blumenthal re: ordinance prohibiting vending machine sales of cigarettes and tobacco products suggested ordinance committee look into in order to limit access to; State Estimated Revenue sheet (Schedule "A" attached); Discussion concerning property located at 49 Talmadge Hill Road waiting to hear from the state, discussion has taken place with the Town Attorney concerning the need to notify charitable organizations, T. Graveline pointed out that Kelly Cronin from Family Services of Waterbury has expressed interest in the property possibly as a foster home which would be a state run facility. Mayor pointed out that the town is paying Liability Insurance on the property. Aware of the fact that the building needs cosmetic work, the issue of the well being the main problem. Council to visit @ 6:30 prior to August 7th Regular meeting; Mayor discussed the recent teen dance and indicated that there were no problems; Updated members on Shriner's day and the Library's 10th anniversary celebration.

CORRESPONDENCE: June Zoning Inspectors Report, Building, Electrical, Heating & Plumbing Inspectors Reports for May & June. Motion made by T. Graveline, 2nd by P. Geary to place on file. Motion Unanimous

Motion made by G. Hodge, 2nd by P. Geary to approve minutes of June 19, 2001. Unanimous

SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:

T. Graveline reported on the Water Authority meetings - information has been collected, guest from DEP attending meeting in July, Subcommittee to be meeting 4th Tuesday of every month July 24 and August 28th being the next two meetings. Will be having a site walk.

Ordinance Subcommittee scheduled to meet August 1st @ 7 P.M.

C. Gibbons thanked T. Graveline for assisting with the letter that appeared in the Prospect Pages.

P. Geary questioned meeting Friday with Yankee Gas - Will be a question and answer meeting. Mayor indicated that Yankee Gas will pay for everything except hookup to individual homes.

S. Sabo made Mayor aware of the speeding issue on Cook Road. Also questions concerning motor vehicle spot checks, Mayor Chatfield indicated being published in the Legal Notice section of the newspaper.

Motion made by G. Hodge, 2nd by P. Geary to adjourn. Unanimous. Meeting adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
