The Regular Town Council meeting was called to order by Chair Cynthia L. Gibbons at 7 P.M. Members present: Robert Doyon, Patricia Geary, Cynthia Gibbons, Domenic Jannetty, Douglas Merriman and Dominick Mirabelle @ 7:02 P.M. Absent: Theresa Graveline, Thomas Hallaway and Edward Miller.
MAYOR’S REPORT: Not in attendance
GUESTS: Trooper Nelson Abarzua – P. Geary told Trooper Abarzua that residents have asked her how to find out when assaults, burglaries or acts of vandalism take place in their neighborhood, specific crimes are not published in the paper, seeking better communication in the areas where crimes take place. Trooper Abarzua indicated that when cases are closed they become public information. When incidents happen in specific neighborhoods the police will sometimes do a neighborhood canvas but not in an on-going investigation. P. Geary wondered if neighbors should be made aware so incidents can be prevented. Trooper Abarzua indicated that there is not much crime in town and reviewed process of arrests. P. Geary also questioned police report, recently became more detailed. Trooper Abarzua indicated sometimes the worst thing to happen in town is smashed mailboxes. When something needs to be published in the newspaper there is a good working relationship with the Republican-American.
D. Jannetty recognized Democratic Town Committee chair, Michael Scaviola, present in the audience.
Gene McCarthy, Asst. Director of Public works questioned if two subcommittee meetings scheduled for the 22nd would be held. Subcommittee members can’t attend.
P. Geary questioned problem with skating rink – Gene McCarthy explained pockets with thin ice. Reviewed process of getting the rink ready.
D. Merriman – meetings for Asst. Public Works and Public Works Bldg. agendas were not filed. Seeking attorney’s advice due to effect in the future. Spoke to Attorney and the firm has experts concerning labor relations and advised council to table until hear from the town attorney.
Public Works Building subcommittee to meet the 28th at 6:30 P.M.
D. Jannetty showed Gene McCarthy copies for the grant the fire department received for exercise equipment, some members have requested copies.
